Souvenir Piece of the CSS Virginia

Souvenir Piece of the CSS Virginia
This is a fantastic relic of one of the most famous naval battles in history. This small souvenir was made from a piece of the armor plate that was taken off of the Confederate ironclad ship Virginia, that was better known as the Merrimac. The battle between the Monitor and the Merrimac was fought in March 1862. When the Confederate shipyards at Norfolk were evacuated by the Southerners, they destroyed the famous Merrimac.
After the war was over the armor plate off of the ship was removed and purchased by the Old Dominion Iron and Nail Works in Richmond. They made many commemorative items out of the iron since they would bring more than what just the iron would in those days. This was made into the shape of a horse shoe and on the front side it reads, “MERRIMAC 1862”. On the reverse is “OLD DOMINION & I. & N. WO. CO.”

Spanish American War Presentation Staff & Field Officer Sword
Up for sale we have one of the nicest Spanish American War staff & field officers swords I have owned. It remains in great condition given its age. The blade remains in good shape with some blackening and minor rust on the lower half below the engraving. What makes this one cool is the engraving on the scabbard which states that the sword was presented to a Geo. W. Carle I’m 1900 by the members of his company. This is super neat sword that shows its age but on the whole, remains a very attractive item. One that I have considered putting in my own collection.

J.P. Benjamin Calling Card & Photo
Up for sale we have two very rare items. The first is an unpublished, original photograph of Judah P. Benjamin. This photograph was taken later in his life, but is unquestionably him in the photograph. If you take a moment to compare the facial features of the man in the photograph to known and published photographs of Benjamin they are a complete match.
The other item included in this group, which is just as rare as the photograph if not more so, is one of Benjamin’s calling cards from his time in Louisiana. I have searched high and low for another calling card from him but cannot find one.
This is you opportunity to purchase a very rare, one of a kind piece of Civil War and Confederate history.
